The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has bagged this year’s national urban water awards in financial reforms category.


The award instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development was given by President Pratibha Patil here on Thursday.

The BWSSB was selected for its achievement in cost recovery through effective billing and collection facilitated by citizen-friendly interface, such as spot billing, 24 x 7 payment facilities through Kaveri Kiosks, 100 per cent metering.

In “public-private partnership” category, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board has bagged runner-up award in national level for its effort in improving water services through financial reforms in Hubli-Dharwad through effective metering, 100 per cent spot billing and reduction of non-revenue water.

Innovation category

In the “technical innovation” category, Kundapur Town Municipal Council bagged the award for its achievement in the area of reduction in non-revenue water and improved service delivery.
